WHO WE ARE
Ffrindiau Port is a community group in Porthmadog - its members being residents, parents, shopkeepers and representatives of voluntary and youth organisations.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
- a) To improve our community by organising and participating in events which may be enjoyed by all community members.
- b) To encourage the community to work together, regardless of age, gender, nationality, political belief or religion.
- c) To support and encourage community events and social activities.
- d) To promote a sense of pride in our community and local environment
WHAT WE’VE DONE
Over the last three years we have been extremely busy each year raising funds to create and improve a brilliant display of Christmas lights – a task which we took over from the local council. We stage a Fun Day for all members of the community, which ends with the switching on of the Christmas Lights.
Early in 2000, as the first stage of a three-year scheme to improve the Christmas Lights in Porthmadog, the committee set a target of raising £8,000 that year. Door to door collections were made, collection boxes were left in local shops, donations were received from businesses and individuals and various fundraising events were held.
Each year, we have extended and improved our festive lighting, and varied our programme for the Fun Day to satisfy demand.
WHAT NEXT?
Ffrindiau Port are already busy organising this year’s Fun Day. Once again there is a lot of fundraising to do.
We would like to thank all the individuals, businesses and the Town Council for their generous donations over the last three years, plus say a big ‘thank you’ to all the volunteers who give their time in preparation for the big day, and look forward to seeing everyone enjoying the festivities in 2003.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Membership is open to everyone. We are always very grateful for any donations or offers of help, whether it is an hour helping at a coffee evening, selling raffle tickets or putting up Christmas trees. Also new ideas on fundraising are always welcome.
